A Message from the Chair of our Board of Directors
My first year as Chairman of the Ben Bronz Academy has given me an appreciation of the wonderful school that Ben Bronz is.
Collectively, the Board of Directors, Administration, Mediators and staff of our school are focused on meeting the needs of students and their families.
Two years ago, our Board adopted a 3-year Strategic Plan that was aimed at improving the services that we offered to our students. Gail Lanza, our CEO, has been executing the plan and we have greatly expanded our staff as outlined in her report. We have made so much progress in some areas that we will be revisiting the plan early next year
to make revisions to take account of how much we have accomplished and what further goals we have to reach.
We have been fortunate in attracting new Board members with a wide variety of backgrounds including fund raising, special education teaching, educational legal matters and private school administration.
Two of our parents have volunteered to co-chair the HSA program. We hope that we will be able to increase parent involvement in the school.
Ben Bronz Academy has purchased a
School Management Software Program that will gradually come on line in the current school
year. PowerSchool is used by thousands of school districts around the country (including West Hartford). PowerSchool’s Student Information System and the company’s broader product
portfolio will enhance our ability to manage the school. We will also benefit from enhanced scheduling, record keeping and the ability of parents to access grades and other information, and mediator communications online through a parent portal available 24/7.
Our Board played a key role in our Walk-a-Thon this year. With every new program there were challenges, but in
the end we raised over $30,000 to benefit our new library. As important, it was a community event that brought together parents, students and staff. We expect to do this event again May 5, 2024 and hope for the same type of support from all that we had this year.
I look forward to ‘23-’24 as a year of growth and enhancement as we continue to service the needs of our Ben Bronz Families.
